Hydropower
Context & Challenge
A mountain river with rich elevation drop but complex terrain and limited access. Traditional large hydro development is difficult. The local grid is small with significant load fluctuations.
- Load surges causing frequency fluctuations
- Slow mechanical response of water turbines
- Insufficient grid inertia causing system instability
Technical Solution
Modular small hydro plant + grid-forming BESS (VSG) forming a stable regional energy system. VSG provides virtual inertia and frequency support, enabling turbines to operate in a stable environment.
When load changes: VSG responds to power fluctuations in milliseconds, storage absorbs or releases energy, and turbines gradually adjust output — coordinating electrical and mechanical response.
Core Benefits
- Improved isolated/weak grid stability
- Protection of turbines from electrical shocks
- Higher renewable energy utilization
- Clean energy development in mountainous areas
